Walking the Debris Field of the 1917 Explosion

December 4 – 29, 2017

For the last four years, NiS+TS has presented public walking events that explore the ways in which the December 6, 1917 explosion in Halifax harbour has shaped the diverse experiences and understandings of this city. This exhibition featured some of the images and artifacts that comprise NiSTS’s own archives, created as part of its walking activities in the debris field of the Halifax Explosion.

Artifacts and found objects of the Halifax Explosion are not limited only to the time of the Explosion in 1917. They exist in the present, containing the effects of the Explosion that have shaped the landscapes of neighbourhoods and public spaces of the debris field.
